Bahrain GP decision deadline extended

Formula One's governing body says it has extended the deadline for a decision to be made on whether to rearrange this year's cancelled Bahrain Grand Prix.
Bahrain was due to host the 2011 season-opening race on March 13, but the event was called off due to civil unrest in the Gulf kingdom.
The Bahrain Motor Federation and officials from the circuit in Sakhir now have until June 3 to announce whether or not they will hold this season's event.
The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) had initially set a deadline of May 1 for a conclusion to be reached.
"This decision was taken after consultation with the relevant Bahraini authorities and Formula One Management (FOM), the international promoter," read a statement on the FIA's web site.
Zayed Rashid, chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), expressed his gratitude to the FIA and FOM for their assistance in difficult circumstances.
"We gratefully acknowledge the understanding of FOM and the FIA in what have been difficult times," Rashid told the sport's official web site.
"Clearly our national priority is to find a resolution to the difficulties that the kingdom of Bahrain has experienced.
"The national situation has moved on in a positive manner, the situation is evolving all the time; our day-to-day life is gradually improving under the current state of national safety."
Bernie Ecclestone, president of FOM, had previously suggested the race -- which was first introduced to the sport in 2004 -- could take place during Formula One's mid-season break in July.
The FIA's new deadline coincides with the date of the next World Motorsport Council in Barcelona.
Three rounds of the 2011 F1 season have been completed, with reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel currently leading the standings, and the next race will take place in Turkey on May 8.
