Lohan sentenced to four months jail for theft

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan pleaded no contest on Wednesday to stealing a necklace from a Los Angeles store in January, and was sentenced to four months in jail.
Lohan, who was not in court, entered the plea through her lawyer on a reduced, misdemeanor theft charge.
Under California law, a no contest plea is effectively an admission of guilt. Lohan, 24, who has been in and out of jail and drug rehab for almost four years, had previously pleaded not guilty, insisting on her innocence.
The judge in the case sentenced the "Mean Girls" actress to 120 days in jail and 480 hours community service. Lohan was told to report to jail on or before June 17.
However, Lohan's lawyer told the court that the actress was expected to be approved to serve her jail sentence at home under a house arrest or electronic monitoring program designed to combat overcrowding in Los Angeles jails.
Jail officials have also said it is likely that Lohan will serve far less than her 120 day sentence with time off for good behavior and because of overcrowding.
Lohan was also ordered to complete psychological counseling, and an anti-shoplifting program.
Los Angeles Judge Stephanie Sautner said it was up to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which administers the jail system, how to handle the question of house arrest or early release.
But she added "Any early release on house arrest seems to be a triple bonus... (But) I am not about to battle the Sheriff. I do order that while under house arrest she is not allowed out to do community service."
Lohan's once promising Hollywood career has been stalled since a 2007 drunk driving and cocaine possession arrest.
However last month, she landed her first big movie part for several years in an upcoming feature film about the New York Gotti crime family, alongside actors John Travolta and Al Pacino.
