Injury sidelines Phillies closer Lidge out until May

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The National League favorites Philadelphia Phillies will start the season with top closer Brad Lidge out for at least three to six weeks with a strained right shoulder, the team said.
He will begin the season on the disabled list and is not expected to return to the active roster before the end of May at the earliest.
"Obviously, losing your closer for this amount of time is not something you're looking forward to," Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters.
"On the brighter side, it's not something that needs to be surgically repaired."
The often-injured Lidge, 34, appeared in 50 games for the Phillies last season, saving 27 of 32 opportunities.
Philadelphia opens its Major League season at home on Friday against the Houston Astros.
