St. Patrick's Day Patch Picks

Pubs and restaurants in Stow will be celebrating the life of Ireland's Saint Patrick in grand style Thursday, serving up plenty of corned beef, cabbage and, of course, green beer!
The city’s Irish pub – Brubaker’s – will even be running a free shuttle service between its seven Akron-area locations for St. Patrick’s Day party people to mix and mingle in other cities.

Applebee’s will start its celebration one day early, which is dubbed “St. Practice Day.” The restaurant/bar and its employees will be decked out in green while dishing out reuben and burger specials for $5 both days. Drink specials will include green beer, $2.99 Miller Lites and $1 Jello shots. The restaurant is participating in the national Shamrocks Against Dystrophy campaign, raising money for Jerry’s Kids. Customers can purchase (for $1 or $5) and sign shamrocks that will be displayed in the restaurant for the next month. The $5 shamrocks come with a $5 Applebee’s gift card!

Even though Bellacino’s is an Italian restaurant, there will be a nod toward the Irish with half reubens on special for $4.99. Pitchers of Honey Brown and Coors Light will be on special for $4.99, while Jägerbombs and cherry bombs will be offered for $3.50. Those who want their beer to be green will be accommodated! Appetizers will be discounted 25 percent before 9 p.m. and 50 percent after that.

Probably to no one’s surprise, Brubaker’s Pub is going all out for St. Patrick’s Day! The Stow location will open early at 8 a.m. – which isn’t as early as one of its sister pubs is opening. Radio station WKDD 98.1 will be broadcasting live from the downtown Akron Brubaker’s from 6 to 10 a.m. The Brubaker’s Pub St. Patrick’s Day Express shuttle buses will be running, free of charge, on a loop between the chain’s seven locations from 1 to 9 p.m. The Stow Brubaker’s will be serving up special shots, such as the Shamrock Shooter and the Nutty Irishman, along with green beer (Coors Light). Guinness on draft will be $4.75 a pint. The kitchen will be offering an 8-ounce corned beef and Swiss sandwich, along with chips and a pickle, for $7.75

The Stowaway Pub will open early at 7 a.m. so customers can get a jump start on their St. Patty’s Day festivities. Kegs and eggs – corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, toast and a small domestic beer, green if you like – will be offered for $4.99 from 7 to 11 a.m. Lunch and dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Specials include Guinness stew in a cup or a bowl; corned beef on rye with a side for $6.59; a Reuben with a side for $7.59; corned beef and cabbage dinner with potatoes and carrots for $8.99. For dessert, how about a piece of Baileys mint Irish crème cheesecake with fudge swirl for $4.99? Happy “hour” will run from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Drink specials will include Irish Car Bombs and Irish coffee. The Stowaway will be decorated in green and there will likely be giveaways of beads and T-shirts.
The Tavern of Stow has put aside its regular menu for the day because employees are expecting a very busy day serving up their favorite Irish fare. St. Patrick’s Day menu items will include corned beef and cabbage with redskin potatoes and carrots for $10.99; a traditional rueben sandwich with choice of side, $8.59; corned beef sandwich with side, $7.99; a corned beef wrap with coleslaw and Swiss, with thousand island dressing on the side, $8.59. Drink specials will include green beer (Budweiser and Bud Light) and Irish Car Bombs. Irish music will be playing throughout the day, and T-shirt and bead giveaways will take place while supplies last. The tavern will open at 11 a.m., and all menu items will be available for carryout
